Glamorgan Hunt 2010

Welcome to the Glamorgan Hunt Website.

2009 Hunter Trials

The Big One makes a splash despite the weather.

Despite five hours of virtually continuous rain, cross country eventer’s turned out in true “Hunt style” to support the Glamorgan Hunts 3rd annual hunter trials competition hosted by Alps Park in Wenvoe, Cardiff last Sunday.

Battling the weather conditions 157 entries of 190 horse and rider combinations completed the course from the novice course to the extremely challenging Open event.

Entries came from far and wide to compete for one of the biggest prize funds on offer in a hunter trial event.

Prior to the start of the Open Competitors and spectators alike were treated to a master class demonstration of the open course by former team GB international 3 day eventer Nicola Lewis prior and talked the riders though the approach to each of the 25 technical jumps. Thankfully she demonstrated the course with total professionalism making it all look so easy but more importantly injecting an element of confidence into the waiting competitors.

Nicola commented “ I was extremely impressed with the standard of riding demonstrated at the event, at the organisation on the day and with the course designed by the Nick Coles and Richard Conway ; the owners of the Alps Park equestrian Centre. The Facility was fantastic and I would have no hesitation recommending it to anyone, I just hope I get invited back to The Glamorgan’s 2010 competition next year.”

Terry Edgell – the Hunts Joint organiser of the event, said

"The weather was a big disappointment for us, so much effort goes into these days and the only thing you can not control is the great British weather, we were just so relieved to see the continual arrival of such dedicated competitors; our thanks goes to them and the team of hunt volunteers who stewarded and helped out on the day. Once again the profile of the event was raised with the support of sponsorship fSSrom Banking giants HSBC and a host of local businesses without who we really would struggle to put together such a generous prize fund and professional event, we really are very grateful to them all ”

Presenting the prizes on the day were BBC Wale’s news presenter Sian Lloyd, John Lloyd Jones PR manager for HSBC, Nicola Lewis and Fiona Martyn.
