RECORD BREAKING SUCCESS FOR 2008 HUNTER TRIALS
The Glamorgan Hunt Hunter Trials is celebrating its most successful event to date, as the star studded 2008 trials saw a record breaking number of entrants take part at
Event entries were up by a massive 58 per cent from the 2007 trials, with many competitors attracted by the impressive
£1,700 prize fund, which included £500 for the ultimate winner of the Senior Open. Entries came from as far afield as Ammanford,
Terry Edgell, Joint Organiser of the Glamorgan Hunt Hunter Trials, said:
“This year’s event well and truly exceeded all our expectations. Although we had a significant number of entries before
the day, and were expecting a good crowd, the fact that we had one of the only really nice days of the year attracted
a large number of last minute entries, providing a significant boost to the event.
“It was great to see some top names from the equestrian world in attendance – even the legendary David Broome came
along with his sons and entered a couple of classes.
“I must thank our sponsors, HSBC Bank, as well as all the local companies who offered their support and services – it’s
this kind of commitment which makes this fantastic event possible.”
A total of 255 horse and rider entries took part in the trials, including former professional showjumper Martyn Edwards, who stood in for his injured Son Mark in the Senior Open, but was pipped to the post by local rider Ross Gibbon. Jayne Case, BBC Wales’ longest serving news presenter, along with the Cartwright family from the last season of the BBC’s popular Coal House series, presented trophies.
Garry Allen, Joint Organiser of the Glamorgan Hunt Hunter Trials, said:
“The great thing about the Glamorgan Hunt Hunter Trials is that although we are establishing ourselves
as a highly competitive event, there is still the opportunity for young riders and beginners to take part
and enjoy the day. The highest proportion of entries this year were for the senior classes, so it would be
great to see some more juniors and novices coming along next year to have a go at the beginner course,
then stick around to get a few tips off the more experienced competitors. I believe we are well on the
way to establishing the Trials as the best equestrian event, for all standards, in
We had 215 entries and 255 horses (if pairs included as 2 horses) go around the course 58% up on last year!
